Aldi has teamed up with a marine charity as part of an event to help clean up Brighton beach.

Volunteers are being called on to help scour the beach for rubbish as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch programme.

The programme will include a beach clean with the charity looking to remove over half a million pieces of litter from the UK seaside.

Liz Fox, sustainability director at Aldi UK, said: “We are pleased to support the Marine Conservation Society to create positive change for the UK’s seas.

“We know that making significant changes takes time, but through our commitments we are working towards bettering the environment for everyone.”

The Beachwatch programme will see volunteers cleaning Brighton beach on Tuesday, September 26, from 10.30am.

The clean will coincide with similar efforts on over 1,000 UK beaches.

Katherine Stephenson, director of fundraising at the Marine Conservation Society, said: “We're delighted to have the support of Aldi and can't wait to get out on the beach with their team and members of the public.

“Our partnership with Aldi means we’re able to carry out beach cleans year-round and collect valuable data that makes a big difference in keeping our seas safe for people, wildlife and future generations.”
