A free workout competition hosted by Ben Shephard is returning to a leisure centre next month.

The national challenge, called the Fortis championships, is returning to Chichester’s Westgate Leisure Centre just off the A259.

The contest, which is open to everyone and free to enter, challenges teams to sweat, squat and lunge through a Hiit (high intensity interval training) class for the chance to be named the Fortis champions.

Finalists will get to meet Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard and be in with the chance of winning top prizes.

The Westgate Leisure Centre is encouraging local people to get involved in the workout challenge.

The championship consists of teams of two, competing against others from across the country, completing a series of challenges. Contestants will make their way up the leaderboard by collecting points awarded for time spent exercising and raising their heart rate.

Those who make it to the final stages of the contest will bag themselves a place at the Fortis championship final on Saturday, November 25 at Harrow Lodge in Hornchurch, north London.

Ben Shephard, presenter of Good Morning Britain and Tipping Point, said: “We’re really excited these championships are going again and we can’t wait to welcome everyone to the classes.

“I love the sense of community and energy in the class. You feed off everybody else’s hard work.

“I look forward to seeing who steps forward to take on the Fortis championships and wish all challengers the best of luck.”

Finalists will get the chance to be crowned the Fortis champions and win prizes including £500 cash, an Everyone Active annual membership and a luxury spa day and overnight stay for two.

Richard Minton, general manager at Westgate Leisure Centre said: “We were delighted with how many local people got involved in the Fortis championships last year. We hope even more people from the local area will join us and enjoy the inclusive, fun and accessible workout challenge.”

The contest will kick off on October 30, with special edition challenge classes taking place weekly at the Westgate Leisure Centre.

The challenge is open to anyone aged 18 and over. Booking opens on October 16. Single participants are also encouraged to sign up to be matched with a compatible challenge partner.
