Fatboy Slim has promised fans his September Brighton beach gig will be his most spectacular yet.

The Hove DJ spoke about his plans for the event after coming off stage at the end of a show-stopping performance headlining the 02 Wireless Festival in London on Saturday night.

His performance on the main stage at Hyde Park attracted what officials said was the biggest audience of the four day festival.

He told The Argus his Brighton show would contain several of the features which prompted a rapturous response from the 30,000 who watched the London gig but would also include special touches created specifically for his home city.

The DJ, real name Norman Cook, said: "We've had a fantastic party by the Serpentine, now lets bring it back to beach."

He said he wanted the Brighton concert on Saturday, September 27, to be even better than Hyde Park had been.

Cook played the London gig in barefeet, dressed in shorts and a trademark Hawaiian shirt.

He came out onto stage to the sound of the theme from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory before launching into a crowd-pleasing set which featured his own hits Praise You, Right Here Right Now and Rockerfeller Skank as well as remixes of tracks by The Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire, Beyonce Knowles and Cream.

He also included some of the tracks from his new project the Brighton Port Authority. For one song He's Frank which features Iggy Pop on vocals, the singer appeared on giant video screens singing along.

The majority of the 22,000 tickets for Cook's gig on Madeira Drive on Brighton seafront have been sold but organisers said some were still available.

To attract a local crowd they have only been sold to people with credit cards registered to a BN postcode, an area stretching from Littlehampton to Eastbourne.

The concert, called Big Beach Boutique 4, will be the first the DJ has staged at the beach during the Summer months since a free gig in 2002, which attracted 250,000 fans to the city.

He held a trial concert at the Madeira Drive site on New Year's Day 2007. Almost 19,000 revellers braved torrential rain and strong winds to join the party.

Cook has promised a spectacular audio and visual show in September with a line-up including himself and other major acts. There will be a giant barbecue and stalls selling Pimms, champagne and beer.

He said he took a lot of pride from playing in Brighton.

Cook said: "Because I live here and I'm so proud of Brighton, it's the proudest moment of my life to be up there in front of that crowd in my hometown."
