I adore nice, fresh bread from our village bakery. Everybody says bread isn't fattening, but I notice if I have more than a few slices a day, I really put weight on. Why?
Well, bread really isn't particularly fattening.
An average slice contains only about 75 calories.
But the problem is what we put on it and particularly the butter or spread. It's very easy to slap 15g of something nice on a slice of bread. If you do that with butter, you'll add another 110 calories. Even with a non-butter spread, a big dollop could give you lots of extra calories. So try to stick to a thin application of a low-fat product.
