E-scooter related injuries have nearly doubled in Sussex in the past two years with over 75 incidents reported to police since 2020.

Government figures show that reports of injuries in the county involving the vehicles rose to 31 in 2022 compared to 17 in 2020.

The number of incidents steadied in the last year compared to 2021 with 31 injuries reported in both of the last two years.

However, the proportion of incidents in Sussex compared to other parts of the country has fallen in the same period.

In June, a 19-year-old man suffered serious injuries in Brighton after a crash involving an e-scooter and a Range Rover.

Separately a man was taken to hospital after a late-night collision with a bus while riding an e-scooter.

In total, 79 injuries involving e-scooters were reported between 2020 and 2022.

Of these figures, Sussex was the joint second most affected area in the country with four per cent of incidents taking place in the county.

Despite this, the proportion has since fallen to three per cent in 2021 and two per cent in 2022 as e-scooters have grown in popularity.

The scooters have risen in popularity in recent years with rental schemes being set up in other parts of the country.
