A teenage girl died after crashing her car in a country lane.

Kellie Taylor, 17, was killed when she lost control of her silver Fiat Punto at 12.50am today.

She was travelling east along Mill Road in Arundel, close to Arundel Castle, with friend Sian Clark, 17, in the front passenger seat.

Shortly after crossing a stone bridge, the car left the road on a corner next to Swanbourne Lake, crashing through two fences, a bin and a road sign before slamming into an earth embankment.

Police said Kellie, from Crossbush, near Arundel, who was a sixth form student at St Philip Howard school in Barnham, died at the scene.

It is believed the Fiat was carrying learner driver plates.

Miss Clark escaped and ran down the road to the Black Rabbit pub to ask for help.

She sustained minor injuries and was taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester for treatment.
