As the leaves turn brown and the temperatures drop, a Grade II* listed garden is marking the seasons with festive events

Visitors to Borde Hill near Haywards Heath are invited to its Halloween and Christmas celebrations.

Harry Baldwin, head of horticulture at the gardens, said: “Borde Hill, being home to a diverse tree collection from around the globe, offers a staggering array of autumn colour from shades of coppery yellow on our Chinese tulip tree to the rich fiery reds of our Japanese maple collection.

“Throughout October, the garden and parkland are a feast for the senses where you can find your favourite bench and experience the joyous balance of  nature in all its autumnal glory.”

There is a Halloween trail in place until the big day for families to explore and youngsters can come to a range of spooky events.

On Friday, October 27, there is wand making and crafty events continue over the weekend with pumpkin carving.

Looking ahead to November and December, the gardens have a packed list of events.

Santa will be at the gardens at his grotto and there will be a festive trail through the gardens.

There will also be wreath-making workshops on November 29 and December 2 with Borde Hill's professional florist Barbara Mole and senior gardener Julia Bigham.
