A hairdressing salon is celebrating a big win in an Argus competition for its trendsetting styles and new techniques.

Readers voted Fine To Fabulous in Richardson Road, Hove, as their favourite in Sussex and the staff could not be more delighted.

Owner Ingrid Wood started the business in 2015 as a home-based hairdressing service in Southwick before taking on the salon.

The name, Ingrid says, encourages people "not to settle for just looking 'fine' but to aim for a 'fabulous' appearance."

After clinching victory in The Argus Your Favourite awards, the team said their success was down to the "tremendous" support of their clients and friends.

Hairdressing runs in Ingrid's family, as her mother ran a salon in Ferry Road in Shoreham for more than 55 years. Her grandmother also owned four salons in New Zealand in the 1950s and 60s, while her sister Rebecca manages a salon in West Chiltington.

Ingrid's daughter Bella hopes to carry the legacy into the next generation with a hairdressing apprenticeship next year.

Ingrid said she has big plans for the future, with make-up tutorial sessions at Rockwater on Hove seafront.

She said: "Our talented stylist Emma recently graduated as a hairdresser with a distinction pass, and we're eagerly anticipating the Brighton Met College Graduation ceremony next month.

"These upcoming events are a source of great excitement for our team.

"We make it a regular practice to attend the annual Hair and Beauty Salon exhibition in London every October.

"This provides us with exclusive access to training, new products, the latest hairstyles and cutting edge techniques enabling us to stay at the forefront of current trends."
