A crafty mum-of-two has crocheted three postbox toppers for Remembrance Day.

Tracy Williams, from Heathfield, taught herself crocheting with the help of YouTube and has been making her woollen crafts for around eight years.

"I have been making postbox toppers for Heathfield for just over two years now for various events and seasons," the 44-year-old told The Argus.

"I love to make people smile and spread a little bit of joy and it seemed like an ideal opportunity to try to raise a bit of money for charity at the same time.

"Each topper always has a sign attached to it with a QR code so people can donate if they wish."

The three toppers she has created for Remembrance Day are outside Sainsbury's in Station Road, in Holly Drive and in Hailsham Road.

This time around, the QR codes send visitors to The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal page where they can make a donation.

"I’ve received so many positive comments about my toppers from the local community," said Tracy.

"Sometimes I will be walking along the street and see people admiring them or taking photos which is really lovely and encourages me to keep making them."

People from Heathfield and further afield have taken to Facebook to thank Tracy for the work she has done.

Kate Sewell, from Heathfield, said: "Thank you for your efforts they’re amazing and bring a smile. These are very poignant."

Postbox toppers have become something of a craze across the county, and crafters both known and anonymous get stuck in.

Most recently, an unknown crafter in East Hoathly, near Uckfield, created a pillarbox topper for the village.

The post box topper has been decorated with a knitted topper named Mr Mushie of Pumpkin Cottage.

Mr Mushie was introduced to his temporary home back in September to celebrate the first official day of autumn 2023.
