A wanted man has been jailed after breaching a restraining order.

Danny Whiting was sought by police on recall to prison concerning two breaches of a restraining order.

Officers traced him to an address in Mill Lane in Arundel on Thursday, December 28, but he fled the scene as police moved in to arrest him.

A large search operation was launched to locate him, with the coastguard being called to assist with a boat and helicopter due to the difficult location and weather conditions.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was also asked to help in the search by checking the riverbank, as well as drone and dog units from Sussex Police.

Whiting, 29, of no fixed address, was later found, detained and appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court the following day (Friday, December 29).

Whiting was sentenced to 24 weeks’ imprisonment for two counts of breaching a restraining order.

He was also ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge.

Inspector Scott Walters of Sussex Police said: “Sussex Police work hard to protect victims of crime.

“The officers demonstrated tenacity and partnership working to show that we will not tolerate continued abuse of victims and will ensure offenders with flagrant disregard for orders in place to safeguard those vulnerable are caught so that they can be presented to the courts.”
