Co-op customers in the city will have a bit of a wait for their next food shop as the store undergoes refurbishment.
The supermarket in Lewes Road, Brighton, which supports 34 local jobs, closed on Sunday to make way for an increased range of items, including chilled and fresh food, world foods and seasonal products.
Improvements are also being made to the shop’s warehouse and storage facilities.
Mark Gillman, store manager of the Co-op branch, said: “We are looking forward to re-opening and welcoming our member-owners and customers back into their Co-op.
“The key changes will enable us to improve operational resilience and availability through enhanced warehouse and storage - better serving the community.
“This sits alongside the range, choice and added services to deliver a compelling offer to serve and support our community conveniently.”
The store will re-open to customers on Friday, January 26.
The nearest Co-op store to the closed branch is in London Road.
