Two neighbouring fashion shops have closed their doors.

Sandro and Maje, both in East Street, Brighton, have shut, leaving a large unit on the corner near the taxi rank empty.

The high end Parisian fashion stores both held Christmas sales before shutting their branches for good this month.

It means Sussex shoppers will now have to go to central London for in-store shopping at Maje or Sandro.

The Maje website still shows its Brighton store as an option for online shoppers to click and collect but the store is boarded up.

The unit, part of the Hanningtons Estate, is next to Loake Shoemakers and across the road from Cos, Hobbs and Hugo Boss.

Estate agent’s GCW is listing the unit for let, with a total 1,576 square feet ground floor and a basement of 976 square feet.

In December the SMCP group – the company which owns Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot and Fursa – announced plans to open a store in India for the first time.

It is due to open branches in the country later this year.

The SMCP group was contacted for comment.
