A popular vet practice has won an award for its eco-friendly efforts.

Wilbury Vets, in Wilbury Avenue, Hove, won the national silver level accreditation from the Investors in the Environment (iiE) initiative in recognition of its sustainable programmes and eco-friendly practices.

The iiE aims to encourage and celebrate firms which are taking more environmentally friendly approaches.

Its audit report said Wilbury Vets promoted a strong culture of caring for one another, their clients and also the environment.

It said: "The foundations for sustainable change across the practice have been laid through the hard work of the 'green team' and whole staff group."

Wilbury Vets also received recognition for environmental projects at the clinic which exceeded the requirements for the silver accreditation.

These involved an environmental management system which focused on factors such as commuter mileage and client travel.

As part of this, the surgery now offer alternatives for in-person visits such as the Pets App and medication delivery service under a membership scheme.

Registered Veterinary Nurse Isabella Kinloch-Haken said: "It’s been a fantastic team effort to reach silver level iiE status.

"The accreditation benefits the practice, our clients and the local community.

"However, we won’t rest on our laurels and will now focus our efforts on achieving the iiE Green Award, the highest level award it offers."

Wilbury Vets has also established an effective waste management system. It chooses reusable alternatives such as microfibre towels for cleaning to minimise paper towel usage.
