The public are being asked for their views on plans for new  cycle lanes planned on the A259.

Consultation has begun into proposals put forward by West Sussex County Council for improvements between Chichester and Bognor.

These include two-way separate cycle tracks, dedicated bus-only lanes, signal controlled crossings and junction changes.

The scheme focuses on the area between the A27 and A259 Bognor Road junction and would include the A29 Shripney Road and A259 Charles Purley Way junction with Felpham Relief Road.

Currently there are no non-stop pedestrian and cycle routes along the A259.

People can take part in the consultation at https://yourvoice.westsussex.gov.uk/a259-chichester-bognorregis/surveys/chichester-corridors1.

The county council said the majority of journeys are made by cars which means congestion is high and there are safety concerns.

There are also plans to provide bus shelters and improve paths at bus laybys.

The public consultation began on Monday and will last until March 11.

The scheme will rely on government funding and if approved it could be several years before construction started.
