A venue damaged by a nearby fire is still undergoing work before it can reopen.

The Windmill Theatre was damaged after the neighbouring Harvester restaurant in Littlehampton was gutted by flames in August last year.

Since the incident, the theatre has been closed.

Freedom Leisure, which owns the facility, is continuing with work to make the site usable again, according to Arun District Council.

This includes a new studio floor, new auditorium carpet, and roof repairs.

External areas of the building are also being repainted.

The council said a fire risk assessment has taken place however the company are waiting for results.

Freedom Leisure said: "Our next update will be in a few weeks when we hope to share the planned reopening date."

At the time of the incident last year, fire crews were on the scene for hours as they tackled the flames at the Harvester restaurant.

The fire spread to the roof of the eatery and damaged the entire building.

No one was hurt in the incident however people living in the flats above lost their entire livelihoods.

The remains of the restaurant have since been demolished for safety reasons.
