It was reported by The Mirror that the reunion came about after the King's recent cancer diagnosis.

His wife Meghan Markle did not join him for the visit and instead stayed in California with their two children.

The visit was Prince Harry and his father's first face-to-face meeting since the Coronation last year, which is believed to be one of the reasons why the reunion was so brief, according to The Mirror.

Their relationship became strained after Harry made a number of revelations about alleged family disputes in tell-all interviews, his controversial book Spare and the Netflix show "Harry and Meghan".

It is not known how long the Duke of Sussex will remain in the UK for during this visit.

The announcement about the monarch's health was made by Buckingham Palace on Monday, however it is believed he informed family members beforehand.

He was diagnosed after going into hospital for a procedure to treat his enlarged prostate.

The palace have since confirmed that the cancer is not prostate cancer.
