Plans have been submitted for a new seven-storey block of flats.

The proposals, for Russell Way in Crawley, could see a new block of 44 flats be built on part of a car park.

The flats would be a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments.

Developers have said the flats would each have some form of outdoor space.

This would include either a balcony, terrace, or private garden for the ground-floor homes.

There would be a shared garden to the south of the building for all residents to use, developers say.

As well as this, the plans state that there will be 44 car parking spaces, including four accessible bays close to the entrance, as well as bicycle storage racks.

Rohacs Architects, who submitted the plans on behalf of applicant Sutherland CP Ltd, said: "The development would bring activity and benefits to the site and local area, including more new residential apartments, as well as providing public realm benefits."

The developers also argued that the new flats would "provide considerable benefits" over the current use of the car park site, which is also home to the five-storey building Sutherland House.

The proposed site is surrounded by Three Bridges playing fields, industrial buildings, a hotel, some residential buildings and a small amount of brownfield land.

If approved, the plans would also require a new access road to be built from Haslett Avenue East.

Crawley Borough Council has set a deadline decision date of May 17.
