Remembrance events will receive more than £1,000 of additional funding a year to provide the “events the city deserves”.

City councillors will agree to increase the cash from £400 to £1,500 to give extra support to organisers in Brighton and Hove.

They said the current contribution was not enough.

Councillor Alan Robins, chairman of the culture, heritage sports, tourism and economic development committee, said: “It’s clear that the current funds are insufficient to provide the Remembrance events that our city deserves.

“We said we’d look into it and we’ve identified £1,500 of ongoing funding to ensure these important community events can continue.

“The council provides a lot of additional support to the management of these activities so this has also been a good opportunity for us to review and improve the arrangements around security, transport and parking for future events.”

The council also provides security, traffic management, parking and other support to Remembrance Weekend events. In 2023 this cost was £11,799.13.
