An entertainment centre which was damaged in a blaze will have the sails of its windmill reinstalled soon.

The Windmill Entertainment Centre in Windmill Road, Littlehampton, has been closed for months after a large fire in the neighbouring Harvester restaurant on August 10 last year.

The cinema and theatre building was damaged by smoke and the water firefighters used to put out the blaze.

External work is continuing and Arun District Council said it is coming close to announcing a reopening date.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed of the additional asbestos work that needs doing which is planned for March 25 and 26.

Once completed, the roof over the boiler room will be waterproofed again.

Internal and external work is close to completion with carpets laid and painting done.

A new fire system will be installed, and the windmill sails will be re-installed by April 8.

Freedom Leisure, the contractor which runs the entertainment centre is starting to confirm theatre and studio bookings throughout the year and the cinema hirer will be returning from July, at their request.

A spokesman for Arun District Council said: “We hope to update in the coming weeks with a confirmed reopening date.”
