Customers had to be evacuated from shops after a fire broke out in a town centre building.
Dozens of fire fighters battled the blaze in London Road, Bognor, this afternoon.
Crews from across West Sussex, including Chichester and Worthing, attended the incident as well as police officers who cordoned off the area while emergency services worked.
People were warned to avoid the area and keep windows and doors shut.
Just before 5pm West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was scaling down its attendance as the fire was out.
Some firefighters are still on scene damping down the site.
The fire service thanked WHSmith and Superdrug for their “co-operation” in evacuating customers from their stores.
