An ice rink operator is funding restoration work of a green park area after its marquee damaged the grass.

Worthing Borough Council has begun works to revive Steyne Gardens in Worthing, which they said was in a "sorry state".

This was a result of the ice rink marquee and the last few months being one of the "wettest winters on record".

A spokesman for Worthing Borough Council said: "Our teams have been working at Steyne Gardens this week to revive the green after the departure of the popular ice rink.

The Argus: Restoration work is underway

"After hosting the attraction and dealing with one of the wettest winters on record, the green space was in a bit of a sorry state a month ago, when we highlighted our plan to have the park looking its best again soon.

"Thankfully, the weather was finally dry enough for our teams to spike, level and reseed the space this week, which is already looking a lot better.

"Weather permitting, we hope to have new grass growing on the space again soon.

"All the restoration work is being paid for by the ice rink operator who is working with us to get the space looking its best again as soon as possible."
