A man has been arrested after a car was engulfed by flames outside a home last night.

The black Mercedes car was singed by fire yesterday evening with its windows broken and bodywork melted.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Sussex Police say they were called to The Hydneye in Eastbourne shortly before midnight last night after reports of a car in flames.

A cordon remains around a home in the area this morning and officers remain on the scene investigating the vehicle. 

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody.

A spokesman for the force said: "About 11.53pm on Sunday, April 14, police received a report of a car on fire on a driveway in The Hydneye, Eastbourne.

"Officers swiftly responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, and the occupants of the house were safely evacuated as a precaution.

"Following enquiries, a 34-year-old man from Hailsham was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in police custody at this time."
