A broken down sailing boat was rescued by RNLI crews.

The 22ft vessel, which had two people onboard, was being pushed towards Worthing beach on Saturday morning.

The Shoreham RNLI crew went out on the lifeboat to assist the boat and its occupants.

They were assisted by Littlehampton lifeboat who towed the boat safely into Littlehampton Harbour.

A spokesman for Shoreham RNLI said: "Our all weather lifeboat was launched on Saturday morning to a broken down 22ft sailing boat a mile east of Worthing Pier.

"The crew found the vessel with two people on board in the surf line being pushed towards the beach. 

"The lifeboat towed the boat to deeper water and then towards Littlehampton where it was met by Littlehampton lifeboat who took over the tow to take it into the safety of the harbour. 

"If you see a person or vessel in distress at sea, please phone 999 and ask for the coastguard."
