Drivers in parts of Brighton have more penalty points than anywhere else in Sussex.

Motorists living in a BN2 postcode area had more penalty points than anywhere else in the county according to figures from the DVLA.

Brighton’s drivers have accumulated over 10,000 penalty points on their licences, making it the area with the worst drivers in Sussex.

Drivers living in a BN2 postcode area covering East Brighton, Rottingdean, Woodingdean and Saltdean have accrued 4,017 in total according to the figures.

The BN3, BN1 and RH11 postcodes are also home to a lot of bad drivers.

In contrast, motorists in Pyecombe with postcodes beginning BN45 have the least points in the county with just 58 penalty points.

The figures, analysed by Swansway Motor Group, include common reasons for getting penalty points such as speeding or using a mobile phone while driving.

A spokesman for the group said: “It’s unfortunate to see so many drivers in a concentrated area with the highest points per population.

“On top of the 50 million plus drivers on the roads, it’s important to consider other road users such as motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians.

“Our priority on any journey should be the safety of ourselves and those around us.”

In total, drivers in Sussex have accrued nearly 70,000 penalty points.
