An investigation is under way after drugs were found inside a toy egg from an arcade machine.

The golden egg, which was supposed to have an emoji key ring inside but instead had a "bag of weed", was opened by a young child at Crawley Hollywood Bowl in Crawley Leisure Park, London Road, Crawley, on Saturday.

On Facebook, one of the child's parents said: "We were at Hollywood Bowl Crawley in the arcade with our five-year-old son.

"He loves the golden egg machine where you get emoji key rings. Well I still cannot actually believe what was in the egg.

"Inside this egg was genuinely a bag of weed."

A spokesman for Hollywood Bowl said: "We take customer welfare extremely seriously and were shocked to learn of an alleged illegal substance found inside a toy egg in one of our Crawley centre's arcade machines.

"The centre team acted immediately and removed the substance and machine from the arcade floor as soon as it was reported.

"There were no other suspicious substances found in the machine after a thorough check.

"This is an isolated incident. CCTV footage is being reviewed to understand if the machine was tampered with, and the police have been informed.

"We would like to thank the customer for reporting the incident to the team and apologise for any distress caused."

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Police were called to a report of suspected drugs which were found at Hollywood Bowl, London Road, Crawley on 27 April.
