A mother has told of her pride after her son swam 60 lengths of a swimming pool for charity.

Seven-year-old Ralph Gotts covered around 1.5km at Horsham’s Pavilions in the Park leisure on Saturday.

The keen swimmer swims multiple times a week and his mum Chanel McGarry, 34, said he wanted to challenge himself.

Ralph, from Horsham, completed the challenge in one hour 35 minutes as part of Cancer Research and Marie Curie’s Swimathon over the weekend.

“I am so proud of him, this tops it,” said Chanel.

“He is so young and so determined. He did not falter, he stopped for a drink here and there but kept going and going. The whole leisure centre was cheering him on.

“He has been swimming his whole life, he is very good at it and enjoys it. He has never attempted something like this.

“It’s the first time he has done something for charity, we have had family and friends who have suffered cancer.

“It was fantastic for him to be able to understand that he was doing something challenging for himself but doing it for other people. Another little boy going through that treatment.

“There are some little ones going through this, he really enjoyed doing something good.

“It was amazing to watch.”
