A man has described finding a "trail of blood" along a city centre road after a late night bottle attack.

The man said he was concerned after finding the long trail stretching down Lewes Road towards Moulsecoomb, Brighton.

Sussex Police are looking for an attacker after a man was struck with a bottle just before midnight on April 29. The 41-year-old was seriously injured.

The man who saw the blood, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I came home after work and saw there was a lot of blood on the floor.

"I followed it and it went on and on. It was quite concerning and eventually police met me by Sainsbury's and I helped them follow it.

"I was concerned it was a knife attack. It's clearly quite a severe issue."

Police were able to track down the victim of the attack with the help of paramedics.

They are appealing for witnesses and have released a description of a man they believe is linked to the attack.

A force spokesman said the 41-year-old was attacked between Franklin Road and The Level between 11pm and midnight on April 29.

The assailant was a man about 5ft 11in with blond hair. He was wearing a white hoodie and a white T-shirt.

Sussex Police said: "Witnesses and anyone in the area at the time who may have seen something suspicious, or anyone with CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage is urged to come forward.

"Information can be reported to Sussex Police online, quoting serial 45 of 30/04."
