An MP said her office has been damaged, blaming protesters and football fans.

Conservative Lewes MP, Maria Caulfield, said on X that vandals have inflicted damage on her constituency office in Newhaven.

However, the politician appears to have accused different groups of people for the incident, causing confusion.

The MP initially said: “To those who damaged my office over the weekend with free Palestine protests, we have CCTV and your faces were seen and images have been sent to the police."

An hour later, a second post read: “So it seems supporters of a London women’s football club playing in the local area yesterday felt it appropriate to damage my office. Faces, shirts and scarves clearly seen on CCTV and now with the police and are being reported to the FA as well."

A spokesman from Sussex Police said: “We can confirm we have received a report of criminal damage at a premises in West Quay, Newhaven, which is alleged to have occurred around 5.15pm on Sunday 19 May.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with any information is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 730 of 20/05.”

Maria Caulfield has been approached for comment.
