Firefighters battled a scrap yard blaze as smoke was seen rising into the sky.

Crews from Hailsham and Eastbourne were called to H Ripleys scrap yard in Hailsham to tackle the flames coming from a mound of rubbish.

The site was affected by a serious fire in 2018 which took more than 50 firefighters days to get under control.

Yesterday's blaze, at around 6pm, was considerably smaller and took less than an hour to extinguish, The Argus understands.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for comment.
