A person is in a serious condition after a medical incident that triggered a large response from emergency services.

A cordon was placed around a section of New Road, Brighton, this afternoon near the Mash Tun while emergency services responded to the incident.

Many police cars and vans attended as well as multiple ambulance crews.

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said a person collapsed in Church Street and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The spokesman said: "Secamb was called shortly before 12.30pm today (May 24) to reports a person had collapsed in Church Street, Brighton. Ambulance crews attended and the person was given emergency treatment before being taken to hospital in a serious condition."

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Emergency services responded to a medical incident at a premises in Church Street, Brighton, at about 12.30pm on Friday, May 24.

"Police supported the ambulance service with temporary road closures.

"Officers have thanked the public for their patience while this matter was responded to."
