A person in distress at sea has been rescued.

Eastbourne lifeboat launched after being called by Solent Coastguard.

The call came after a member of the public reported someone in the water in distress near Splash Point shortly after 10.40am on Friday.

When Eastbourne RNLI crew arrived at the scene the casualty was out of the water and being cared for by Eastbourne Coastguard.

A spokesman for the Eastbourne RNLI said: "Our crews pagers sounded at 10.41am on Friday with a request from Solent Coastguard to launch the D-Class inshore lifeboat David H.

"Members of the public had reported a person in the water in distress near to Splash Point. Fortunately when the crew arrived on scene the casualty was out of the water and being tended to by Eastbourne Coastguard."

People experiencing emergencies out at sea have been reminded to call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
