A cliff railway has been closed due to concerns raised in a report.
The West Hill Lift railway which transports people from George Street in Hastings to Hastings Castle and St Clement’s Caves has been temporarily closed.
Hastings Borough Council has said the attraction, which was opened in 1891 and retains its original Victorian coaches, has been shut “due to concerns raised in an engineering report”.
The East Hill Lift, which provides access to Hastings Country Park and is the UK’s steepest funicular railway, reopened in October last year following a year of repair work.

A spokesman for the council said: “The safety of the public is our top priority, and we are taking the necessary precautions to ensure the integrity of the cliff railway before resuming service.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, especially over the bank holiday weekend, and appreciate your understanding as we work to address these concerns.
“Updates will be provided as soon as we have more information.”
