A man was stabbed in broad daylight at a busy park.

Police cordoned off a section of green space at The Level in Brighton following the attack just before 4pm yesterday.

The air ambulance was called in and hovered overhead but was stood down before its specialist paramedics were needed.

The victim, who suffered stab wounds, was taken to hospital by paramedics. Police say they have not made any arrests.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Police and emergency services responded to a report of an assault at The Level, Brighton, shortly before 4pm on Thursday, August 29.

"One man was injured and taken to hospital with an injury consistent with a stabbing. The injury is not thought to be life-threatening.

"There will be an increased police presence in the area while the incident is dealt with and to provide reassurance."

The force urged any witnesses to come forward by calling 101, quoting serial 832 of 29/08.

A spokeswoman for the Kent, Surrey, Sussex Air Ambulance added: "A helicopter from Air Ambulance Charity KSS was dispatched to Brighton on August 28 but the crew were stood down."
