People are to be warned how to spot the signs of fraud after 200 reports in one area this year alone.
An event is being held in The Council House in Chichester on September 28, organised by Chichester District Council’s community warden Rich Moorey.
Rich joined the wardens in the summer of 2022 after 14 years serving in the area as a Police Community Support Officer.
He will be talking about a range of scams include courier fraud - fraudulent communications that look as if they are from delivery companies - rogue traders, financial and investment scams, romance fraud on dating apps and social media and websites.
In the first quarter of 2024, there were 200 reports of scams in the Chichester area alone.
He said: “I must stress, these scams can happen to absolutely anyone and the aim of these presentations is to give people a few tools to help protect themselves and their loved ones, from what is an awful crime.”
Community groups in the district that would like a presentation or advice on scam awareness should email CommunityWardens@chichester.gov.uk.
