Vagabond Skies depicted the depth of Vincent Van Gogh’s relationship with his brother with such beautiful intricacy that it felt palpable.
Vagabond Skies - The Van Gogh Musical was staged this weekend, September 12-14, at the Devonshire Park Theatre in Eastbourne for a world premiere.
The production, by Tony Norman and Mark Edwards, combined an original score with an "array of emotional and memorable lyrics" to tell the dramatic story of Vincent Van Gogh’s life as an artist.

I attended on the last matinee of the new musical and was taken aback by the sheer detail of the production. From the script, which interwove emotionally complex themes of brotherhood, determination and love, to the delicate details of having world-famous paintings as the backdrop.
The musical centred on the relationship between the ground-breaking painter Vincent Van Gogh and his art dealer brother Theo. Letters between the two were used as a base for the production bringing the life of the famous painter into a different light.
The casting was excellent, Richard Lock, known for Choir of Man Original West End cast, leads and stars as Vincent portraying him accurately and with creative vim. His co-star Richard Dawes depicts Theo in the same vein.
This is a production worthy of the West End and should be a must-see for anyone who is a fan of thought-provoking musicals and the world of the arts.
