A girl has been arrested after reports of an altercation at a school.
Police were called to Heathfield Community College in the town's Battle Road after the school said intruders were on the site this morning.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said the force went to the school after reports of the incident just before 9am on Friday, October 4.
The school was put into lockdown.
He added: "Officers attended, and a 17-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of assault.
"She remains in custody at this time, while officers also remain at the college to provide reassurance.
"Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident is asked to report it to Sussex Police online, quoting serial 286 of 04/10."
Heathfield Community College thanked parents and carers for their understanding during the incident.

"Thank you for your understanding during this lockdown," a school spokeswoman said.
"Intruders that were on site have been apprehended and are now off-site. We are grateful to a swift and effective police presence when needed.
"The lockdown procedures worked extremely well and all staff and students were safe at all times.
"The college is clear and safe for normal activities to resume. Students have been released to period two.
"The lockdown has therefore ended and students are able to return to normal routines and enjoy the remainder of your day.
"The planned sponsored walk is cancelled, we will let you know when it will be rearranged.
"Please do not engage in gossip or rumour about the event, the college will issue a statement with information to parents later today."
