An independent café and cake maker has announced its closure.

Cakes the Difference, based at 142 Mackie Avenue in Patcham, Brighton, ceased operations from March 2.

The family-run patisserie and tearoom expressed gratitude to its customers in a heartfelt statement.

It said: "It is with a heavy heart that we have had to close Cakes the Difference permanently.

"We would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued custom over the past 10 years."

The café was well-loved for its homemade baked goods, breakfasts, and afternoon teas.

It also made celebration, wedding and birthday cakes to order, offering consultations to ensure each creation met customer specifications.

The shop's closure has sparked an outpouring of sadness on social media, with many customers expressing their fond memories.

One customer wrote: "Such sad news. Will miss you all, especially Zoe and Denise.

"Always friendly, and service with a smile."

Another said: "Oh no! This is so sad to hear. You made my wedding cake which was out of this world."

A third commented: "So sorry to read this. Your delicious cakes and afternoon teas have provided many happy memories to mark significant milestones over the years."

Cakes The Difference was opened by Denise Dennis, who said she had been making cakes since she was young.

She wrote: "Even at the age of eight, it was my job to bake the cake for Sunday tea.

"I come from a long line of people young and old who are passionate about good quality food, which is what inspired me to transform Cakes The Difference from a dream into a reality."
