Giant footprints have emerged in a field by one of the county’s most famous landmarks.
Residents have been bemused at the sight of two enormous footprints and a "meteorite impact mark" in a field of what appears to be dried corn, near the Long Man of Wilmington.
Ian is a Sussex-based drone operator who shares his videos on his YouTube channel, Ian in London.
After one of his 80,000 subscribers said he had driven past the field near Eastbourne and spotted something unusual, Ian went down with his drone.
“I genuinely have no idea who did it or what the significance of it is”, he said.
“I don’t know if it was the farmer having a bit of fun or someone else. It’s too clever for kids – the lines coming off the meteorite were perfectly aligned.
“It looks like it was dried corn so I don’t believe there will be damage to the crop.
“If you’re walking along the South Downs Way above the Long Man himself then they would look hilarious – they did put a smile on my face.”
On Tuesday the footprints appeared to have been destroyed as a combine harvester drove over them.
Sussex Police confirmed they had received no reports of criminal damage to the field.
The phenomena of crop circles – in which a pattern is created by flattening a crop - peaked in the 1990s and early 2000s.
In the past, the most ambitious crop circles have attracted tourists from around the world, sparked rumours of aliens and theories of mathematical formulas hidden in their meaning.
While the phenomenon continues to a lesser extent today, Dorset Police appealed for information earlier this month after a spider motif appeared on farmland near Cerne Abbas.
The practice is classed as criminal damage, and many farmers say it destroys crops and causes significant financial losses.
