Hundreds of cyclists are expected to join a mass ride to Lewes to celebrate Bonfire Night.

The "bike train" will leave The Level in central Brighton on Wednesday, November 5, at 6pm and will travel to Lewes via the University of Sussex in Falmer.

More than 300 riders are expected to take part, lighting up the Lewes Road with illuminated bikes and music.

Duncan Blinkhorn, organiser of the event, said: "The Bonfire Bike Train to Lewes has been running since 2010.

"It is always hugely popular, bringing light, music and a fun atmosphere to the Lewes Road and demonstrating that group cycle rides can provide a safe and efficient means for getting from A to B, even on such a busy road."

The route will include stops at Moulsecoomb Library at 6.15pm and the University of Sussex at 6.30pm.

It is free to join but participants are asked to bring a roadworthy bike with lights and register at eventbrite.co.uk

From Falmer, cyclists will ride in the inside lane of the A27.

Organisers say this is safer than using the very dark and narrow cycle path.

The ride is organised by Brighton Bike Hub, a volunteer-run cycle workshop, in partnership with the University of Sussex’s Bike Shack student society.

A return ride will leave from outside Lewes Prison at midnight.
