Brighton’s nightlife scene has a brand new arrival following the launch of Barbara’s Bier Haus, which opened its doors last night after a £1.5 million investment.

The alpine-themed venue is in West Street on the former Walkabout site, and becomes the fifth Barbara’s site in the UK.

It's run by NEOS Hospitality, which has Barbara’s Bier Haus bars in Birmingham, Cardiff, Bristol and Bournemouth.

The opening brings après ski culture to the city centre, with the venue aiming to offer something distinctly different from Brighton’s existing bar landscape.

Early visitors were welcomed into a fully themed alpine interior, complete with dancing bartenders in lederhosen and slope-inspired décor.

Visitors can expect shots served on skis and snowboards, three-foot towers of beer and cocktails for groups, and a soundtrack of feel-good ski anthems.

The bar also includes a themed gondola for photos, free photobooths and a “disco toilet” that transforms into a mini party space at the push of a red button.

Regular visitors will be able to unlock added perks through a guest “Ski Pass”, while selected happy hour windows will offer 50% off drinks, marking out Barbara’s as a new social hotspot for the city.

Russell Quelch, CEO of NEOS Hospitality, said the team is delighted to bring the concept to Brighton. “The city has such a vibrant nightlife scene, and we believe Barbara’s will offer something truly unique, more aligned with guest demand in the area.

"Everything we do is designed to make nights out more memorable, and we’re excited to welcome the city into the Barbara’s experience.”
