Households in Sussex could be eligible for a £25 payment as part of the government's Cold Weather Payment scheme.
The Department for Work and Pensions has triggered the payment across more than 450 postcodes, including 22 postcode areas in Sussex, after temperatures were forecast to stay at or below freezing for seven consecutive days.
Areas that will receive the payment include Crawley, Horsham, Haywards Heath and Uckfield.

The Cold Weather Payment scheme is activated when average temperatures are forecast or recorded at zero degrees Celsius or below over a continuous seven-day period.
Eligibility extends to households receiving certain benefits, including Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit, and Support for Mortgage Interest.
They are designed to help households with heating costs.
The triggering of payments comes in the wake of a cold snap which has seen temperatures plummet and snow and ice warnings issued across the UK.
Recent freezing conditions have prompted the UK Health Security Agency to issue a cold-health alert for England, warning of increased pressure on health and social care services until January 9.
