Five restaurants in Sussex have been named among the best in the country.

Website Squaremeal has revealed its annual list of the top 100 in the UK, "affordable gems to remarkable experiences worth forking out for".

It wrote: "We’ve visited (and revisited) countless contenders, honing in on those that exemplify what the UK does best.

"The outcome is a list built on performance, value, and quality, and each restaurant deserves its spot among the top restaurants in the UK."

5 restaurants in Sussex made the list by Squaremeal.

Restaurant Interlude - Leonardslee Gardens, Horsham

Restaurant Interlude is regularly picked out as being among the best spots in Sussex and the UK.

Squaremeal highlighted its "extravagant 20-course tasting menu" in the Grade-I listed garden on the Leonardslee Estate as one of its many qualities.

It added: "Head chef Jean Delport’s adventurous menus make the most of the local bounty, with impeccable service and expert wine pairings that set Interlude apart from the masses."

The Pass at South Lodge - South Lodge Hotel, Horsham

This Michelin-starred restaurant is another that frequently earns praise.

Squaremeal said that the restaurant is "nothing short of sublime" with "clean, concise, and perfectly-balanced plates, impossible to fault".

It wrote: "Glass wall separates the 28-cover dining room from the kitchen, so diners can watch the team in action while dishes are served by the chefs who made them."

Furna - New Road, Brighton

Furna is another spot named on the Michelin guide, with Squaremeal describing it as "arguably Brighton’s most compelling fine dining destination".

It said: "Chef Dave Mothersill’s menu takes cues from Asian cooking, but the menu remains fluid and seasonal.

"The result? A dining experience that feels both refined and full of energy."

Maré by Rafael Cagali - Church Road, Hove

Maré, which is the brainchild of renowned Brazilian chef Rafael Cagali, was only added to the Michelin Guide recently.

It made the top 100 for its "breezier neighbourhood-style take on Brazilian-Italian dining".

Squarespace said: "Sauces are slick, flavours are staggering, and Maré leaves enough room for fun."

Amari - Baker Street, Brighton

The final Sussex restaurant to make the top 100 was Brighton restaurant Amari.

Sqauremeal wrote: "Raising the bar for Brighton's Spanish dining scene, Amari's singular, breezy brand of Spanish hospitality smacks of sunnier shores and upmarket pintxos bars.

"Run by chef Iain Swainson, formerly of The Samling and The Pass at South Lodge, classics like croquettas, jamon Iberico, and suckling pig steal the show."
