A new art exhibition is capturing the beauty of everyday life through paint and memory.
Homelessness charity Sussex Emmaus is hosting a two-week exhibition at its Portslade community, featuring the work of the Sussex artist Monica Long.
The exhibition, titled Local Life: A Retrospective, celebrates Ms Long’s contemporary, observational style, which transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary through her distinctive lens.
Jo Mazewska, online and retail manager at Sussex Emmaus, said: "Sussex Emmaus is thrilled to host Monica Long’s beautiful work. Her paintings capture the charm and rhythm of everyday life, and thanks to her daughter’s generous donation, the local community can enjoy this inspiring collection. We hope visitors of all ages come along, whether they’re art lovers, students, or simply curious, to explore and celebrate local creativity with us."
Many of the paintings were created from memory, though Ms Long also produced small, discreet sketches of people she observed in cafés, on buses and at concerts.

The exhibition was made possible by a donation of 29 paintings from Monica’s daughter, Jacqueline.
Ms Long’s paintings feature recurring themes of daily life, landscape, wildlife and those around her.
Sussex Emmaus has supported more than 1,500 people experiencing homelessness since 1997.
The exhibition runs from February 10 to February 21 at the Sussex Emmaus Emporium Shop on Drove Road and is free to attend.
