Worthing man named and charged after woman raped

A man has been named and charged after a woman was raped.

Police cordoned off a bus stop in Salvington Road, Worthing, near Manor Parade Co-op after the incident, which reportedly occurred at around 5.55pm on Thursday, May 7.

Stephen Robinson, 68, of Cheviot Road, has since been charged with rape.

He was remanded in custody and appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court for an initial hearing today, May 9.

He is due to appear before Lewes Crown Court on June 8.

The victim, a 37-year-old woman, has received specialist safeguarding support as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances, Sussex Police said.
