As the warmer weather rolls in, there's no better excuse to tuck into Mexican-inspired tapas and soak up a little taste of sunshine.

Just in time for the scorching weather, Wahaca has unveiled its new menu featuring a range of refreshing spritz drinks and vibrant dishes. To find out if it's the perfect summer treat, Wahaca kindly invited me to give it a try.

Like many, the warmer weather has stirred a craving for an ice cold alcoholic drink. Often one of my go-tos would be an Aperol or Hugo spritz, so I was looking forward to trying Wahaca's new range of spritzers.

We tried the Frida Spritz, which has a white rum base with pink grapefruit and prosecco, and the three citrus spritz, the non-alcoholic option.

Both were incredibly refreshing and their bright and colourful presentation made them even more inviting to drink. The Frida Spritz was definitely suited to a sweeter tooth, but nonetheless this did not stop me from guzzling it down like a camel at a watering hole.

With so many dishes on offer, it was hard to pick which mains to try. On recommendation from our fabulous waiter, we ordered a range of tacos and small plates to share.

Among the new dishes, we tried the yellowfin tuna tostadas. The tuna was exceptionally fresh tasting and paired well with the avocado and salsa toppings.

My favourite dish was the hibiscus glazed chicken wings - a generous portion, smothered in a sticky, sweet glaze.

If you were looking for comfort food, the crispy potato esquites provided exactly that. Lathered in cheese, mayo and goodness, this was the perfect, indulgent treat.

Despite feeling extremely full and ready for a siesta, we powered through and could not help but be tempted by dessert.

I tried the churros with caramel sauce - which admittedly I could have spooned straight from the bowl, it was so delicious. My dining partner had the ice cream sundae which came with a generous portion of honeycomb and chocolate cake chunks sprinkled on top.

Wahaca’s summer menu is the perfect selection for the warmer months. All the dishes tasted fresh and delivered a refreshing mix of flavours. Whether you want a lighter bite or to try it all, Wahaca's extensive range of tapas dishes has something for everyone.
