Man broke into Bognor Regis pub and stole charity box

A man who broke into a pub and a chip shop and stole a charity donation box has been jailed.

Max Kramer broke into three businesses in Bognor in one night and stole cash from tills and a charity box.

The 34-year-old was identified through DNA left at crime scenes.

He was also found in possession of receipts from a till he had stolen from.

At Portsmouth Crown Court on July 3, he admitted three counts of burglary other than a dwelling and one count of criminal damage.

He was jailed for 18 months.

The court was told how the incidents happened on April 16 and 17 this year.

In each case, Kramer forced entry to premises by breaking through glass.

This included a fish and chip shop in Highfield Road, a pub in Scott Street, and a pizza takeaway in Aldwick Road, all in Bognor.

He was detained by officers that night and arrested.

Speaking after the case, Arun District Commander Chief Inspector Adam McCaig said: "Kramer targeted businesses during his overnight crime spree.

"His offences caused distress for the business owners who not only had to count the cost of the thefts, but also the cost of repairing the damage caused to their premises from smashed glass.

"We take reports of burglary seriously, and Kramer was swiftly detained.

"He is now serving a custodial sentence."
