Cats with treatable skin conditions await homes in Sussex

Eighteen-month-old Sherry and three-year-old Taco, who arrived at the Cats Protection United Kingdom Cat Centre in Chelwood Gate, have struggled to attract adopters due to their mild skin issues.

Sherry arrived in January, while Taco has been in care since June.

Staff believe visitors may be put off by their medical history, despite both cats now being in good health and on a simple care plan.

Danielle Draper, manager at the centre, said: "We are about any previous or ongoing health conditions, but sometimes that means healthy cats don’t get a second look.

"Sherry and Taco have been prescribed an affordable daily steroid tablet for their skin issues and they eat an over-the-counter hypoallergenic food, so really nothing to be too concerned about."

Both cats need regular vet check-ups.

Ms Draper said: "They will need regular six-monthly or annual vet checks to monitor their condition and repeat their prescriptions and, of course, it’s possible that they might not need meds or a special diet for the rest of their lives, but this should be discussed with their new vet."
