A charity shop volunteer has been named Young Volunteer of the Year.
Jack White, 23, volunteers for St Wilfrid’s Hospice (Eastbourne) at its Polegate shop and was nominated by his manager, Roz Murray at the Polegate Community Foundation Awards.
He said: "I felt honoured and overwhelmed to have even been nominated, so to actually win on the night is something I’m really proud of.
"It's been a privilege to be able to give back to my local community and meet so many amazing people along the way. This achievement means so much to me."
Mr White has volunteered at the shop for two-and-a-half years and currently helps out on five shifts each week.
He praised the team spirit and customer interactions, saying: "It has got a real family vibe to it.
"We have a friendly, inclusive team and I’m always learning new skills.
"I enjoy chatting to the customers, helping them with their purchases and making sure they have a pleasant customer experience.
"I also enjoy the camaraderie and laughter we have within the team, and supporting the other volunteers."
Ms Murray said: "Jack's kindness, loyalty, enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to St Wilfrid's shine through in everything he does."
