Worthing Pier hailed as 'foodiest' in UK by The Guardian

Worthing pier received the accolade in a recent article by The Guardian, which celebrated the country's best seafront structures.

The national newspaper highlighted the Victorian landmark's variety of dining options, particularly noting the recent arrival of Ebb and the ongoing success of Perch on the Pier.

Ebb, which launched under the leadership of head chef Charlie Simmonds earlier this year, has already been heralded by critics and food influencers despite only having been open a matter of months.

In its feature, The Guardian described the restaurant as "a far cry from the fish-and-chip shops and ice-cream parlours more commonly found on seaside piers".

The venue's seasonal dishes and location 300 metres out to sea were singled out for particular praise.

Ebb, located in the pier's restored southern pavilion, offers contemporary dining centred around small plates designed for sharing.

Menus champion local and seasonal produce that celebrates the flavours of the Sussex coastline. 

The restaurant, which opens for dinner from Thursday to Saturday, also serves a two course set lunch for £25 on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Guardian also acknowledged Perch on the Pier for its relaxed approach to classic seaside favourites, providing visitors with two distinct but equally appealing dining options.

Perch is pitched as a laid-back coastal dining experience, serving everything from brunch to fish and chips and Sunday roasts.

It is located beneath Ebb, which sits above it in a space known as 'the nest'.

The nest spot was previously occupied by Worthing eatery Tern, which moved to a permanent premises in the town centre late last year.

Among the other popular piers to appear in The Guardian's feature were Bournemouth pier, labelled the best for "adventure" and Penarth pier in Glamorgan, which was deemed the best for "culture". 

Worthing pier is more than 150 years old, having first opened in 1862.
