An exhibition exploring identity through art is set to go on display.

Personae, a collaboration between Sussex-based artists Dan & Serg, will run from September 11 to 24 at Atelier Beside the Sea, Brighton.

The show will feature paintings and photography exploring the theme of identity and the "stories we present to the world".

The exhibition’s title, Personae, takes its name from the Latin plural of persona – the theatrical mask through which an actor's voice was said to "sound through." Over time, the word came to represent the identities we present to the world.

The works on display explore themes of transformation, identity, and the theatre of everyday life through intimate portraiture.

Subjects featured in the exhibition include tattooed bikers, drag queens, strongmen, and members of Brighton’s LGBTQ+ community.

Among the centrepieces is a new portrait of Rob Makin, best known from Channel 4's Handcuffed.

Displayed alongside the painting will be a selection of photographs from the sitting, offering a rare look at the creative process behind turning a photographic session into a painted work.

The photographic series includes full-length nude portraits, exploring vulnerability, trust, and body confidence.

Rob Makin and fellow Handcuffed cast member Charlie Gray will both attend the private view on Thursday, September 10, alongside Dan and Serg, and all four will be available for interview throughout the evening.

In addition to original paintings, the exhibition will feature Serg’s street photography and portraiture, including images captured during Brighton Pride.

A range of limited edition prints and photographs will also be available, with options suited to both new and established collectors.

Personae invites visitors to consider the many identities people present and the stories that "sound through them," offering a powerful reflection on self-expression and connection.
